Student Travel Guide to Bratislava
The Ultimate Travel Guide to Bratislava for students and backpackers
Introduction to Bratislava
Bratislava, the capital city of Slovakia, split from Czechoslovakia in 1993 and since has remained fairly unmolested by tourism compared to other major European cities. The communist regime in World War 2 has left many architectural scars on the city and the capital is split between the attractive town to the north of the river and the grey housing estates in the south. The old town is extremely popular amongst tourists as its fascinating ancient buildings and streets have outstanding beauty.
Bratislava castle is a big tourist attraction in the city as it possesses wonderful views away to the mountains and also the National Museum. Other major attractions include St Martin’s Cathedral and the Dom sv Martina. The Slovak National Gallery can be found in the centre of the town and is home to the countries largest art collection.
The city is becoming increasingly popular for stag parties as there are many cheap flights available. As the capital has over 50,000 students, it is a modern and vibrant city that offers many forms of entertainment whilst maintaining its historic background. With extremely cheap prices, friendly people and unrivalled hospitality, Bratislava is a great destination for a student tour.
